The Audio Syllabus project strengthened both my instructional design and audio production skills by requiring me to create an accessible, learner-focused audio experience. This project involved researching audience needs, planning content structure, developing a client intake form, and producing a narrated syllabus designed to support student comprehension and engagement.
One of the most important lessons I learned during this project was how audio design directly impacts accessibility and communication. I carefully considered narration pacing, vocal clarity, descriptive language, and sound organization to ensure the content would be accessible for students who are blind or have limited eyesight. This process helped me better understand how instructional audio can support diverse learners while improving comprehension and retention.
The project also allowed me to strengthen my technical audio production skills using Adobe Audition. I practiced recording clean narration, reducing background noise, balancing sound levels, editing audio clips, and integrating music and sound effects in ways that supported the learning experience without becoming distracting. In addition, I gained experience working with recording equipment, microphone setup, room acoustics, and professional audio workflows.
I can best demonstrate these skills in my final portfolio by including the client intake form, planning documents, script development, and completed audio production. Together, these materials showcase my ability to combine research, accessibility considerations, instructional planning, and professional audio production techniques into a cohesive instructional design project.
