This project focused on designing an interactive choose-your-own-adventure learning experience using Typeform to demonstrate how branching scenarios can promote authentic decision-making and learner engagement. Rather than presenting boating safety as a list of rules, learners experience a realistic story in which their choices influence what happens next. As they prepare for a day at Florida's Disappearing Island, they gather information, make planning decisions, interpret changing environmental conditions, and experience the consequences of their actions in a safe learning environment.
A key focus of this project was exploring Typeform as an authoring tool for scenario-based learning. I applied principles of instructional design, storytelling, and user experience to create an intuitive branching experience that gradually increases in complexity while providing meaningful feedback. By combining immersive visuals, realistic decision points, and instructional feedback, the project demonstrates how branching scenarios can encourage critical thinking, reinforce sound judgment, and transform passive content into an engaging, learner-centered experience.
This companion video provides a guided walkthrough of the design and instructional decisions behind the Choose Your Course project. Rather than teaching boating safety directly, the video explains how the branching scenario was structured, why specific decision points were included, and how learner choices produce different outcomes throughout the experience. It also discusses the rationale for selecting Typeform as the development platform, highlighting its visual storytelling capabilities and analytics features, while reflecting on the project's broader applications for scenario-based learning beyond education. The walkthrough demonstrates my instructional design process by connecting learning objectives, branching logic, feedback strategies, and technology selection into a cohesive learning experience.
One feature I particularly appreciated was Typeform's built-in reporting and analytics. The platform provides insight into learner responses, completion rates, and the paths users take through the scenario, making it easier to evaluate engagement and identify opportunities to refine the learning experience based on real user data.
