Challenge
The challenge was to design and develop an educational game that combined instructional design with engaging gameplay to teach a specific UX/UI concept. Rather than presenting interface design principles through traditional instruction, the project required creating an interactive experience that immersed learners in a realistic workplace scenario where they applied their knowledge to solve authentic design problems. The game needed to incorporate a measurable learning objective, meaningful game mechanics, narrative storytelling, and immediate feedback while demonstrating how game-based learning can reinforce skill development and decision-making.

Deliverable
The final deliverable is Ninth Pivot Studios, a scenario-based learning game that places learners in the role of a junior UX/UI designer completing client projects for a fictional design agency. Throughout the experience, players analyze design briefs, identify user needs, and select the most appropriate UI patterns to solve usability challenges. Each completed project awards Designer XP, reinforcing progress while providing immediate feedback on design decisions. Together, the interactive gameplay, workplace narrative, and authentic design scenarios demonstrate the complete instructional design process by integrating game mechanics, storytelling, and experiential learning to strengthen learners' understanding of UX/UI design principles.

Explanation Video
This video provides an overview of the design and development of Ninth Pivot Studios, explaining how instructional design principles were integrated into a game-based learning experience. It explores the decisions behind the workplace narrative, user interface, game mechanics, and feedback system while demonstrating how authentic client scenarios encourage learners to apply UX/UI concepts in context. The walkthrough also discusses how elements such as Designer XP, progressive challenges, and immediate feedback were intentionally designed to increase engagement, motivation, and knowledge transfer through experiential learning.
